15. Can I request an increased connection limit (trust)?

Yes, we do offer this facility. We will, however, only do this where we see there is a need. Examples of justification are a public Internet cafe, school or university, LAN or NAT/Firewall and suchlike.

The Xtris Network restricts users to no more than three (3) connections per IP address. If this limit is exceeded all clients are glined for one hour. The Abuse Committee reserves the right to increase this limit on a case-by-case basis.

In order to gain a Trust, you must meet the following criteria:

  • A Trust should not be used to load bots or clones which serve no purpose, or to increase the size of a channel aesthetically
  • All clients must abide by the Acceptable Use Policy at all times
  • All trusted IP addresses MUST run an ident server (RFC 1413) for all users
  • Upon submission, an active test will be performed on port 113 to check an Identd Server is running
  • General bots which serve a true purpose are an acceptable reason for applying for a Trust; however, they should not be used for anything prohibited by the network's policies - including mass advertising
  • The Abuse Committee reserves the right to remove a Trust at its sole discretion, should any misuse of it be discovered
  • At this time, we do not offer indefinite durations via the Trust Request form. If you require a NOEXP (no expiry) Trust, please mention this in the "Notes and information" textarea on the form

If you believe you meet or exceed this criteria, please click here.

If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas. -- George Bernard Shaw
